newsprintScientific American quoted Ock Chun about her research into furocoumarins, the chemicals that are responsible for the skin’s reaction to giant hogweed sap. Chun is an associate professor in nutritional sciences.

NBC News reported that mosquitoes trapped in New Canaan have tested positive for West Nile virus.  The Department of Pathobiology and Veterinary Science participates in the Connecticut Mosquito Management Program with other groups. There are 91 mosquito-trapping stations across 72 towns throughout the state, according to NBC.

UConn Today posted a video about the newly installed robotics in the Department of Animal Science Frances E. Osborne Kellogg Dairy Center. UConn is one of the first universities to install a voluntary milking system. Department Head and Professor Steven Zinn was quoted in the accompanying text.

FOX 61 ran a video interview with Senior Cooperative Extension Educator Donna Ellis about the dangers of the poisonous giant hogweed plant. See also NBC News.
