The Research Excellence Program provides seed funding to promote, support and enhance the research, scholarship and creative endeavors of faculty at UConn. The Office of the Vice President for Research recently announced the 2017-2018 Research Excellence Program-Storrs recipients. CAHNR awardees and their departments and projects are:
Assistant Professor Christopher Blesso, of nutritional sciences, Defining the Impact of Dietary Sphingomyelin on Lipopolysaccharide Translocation and Inflammation.

Kirklyn Kerr, a current Department of Pathobiology and Veterinary Science professor, was selected as a member of the West Virginia Agriculture and Forestry Hall of Fame (WVAFHF). Kerr served as the dean of the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources and director of UConn Extension from 1993 to 2008. Enshrinement in WVAFHF is granted to individuals, businesses, organizations, institutions and foundations that have helped improve our nation through outstanding contributions that established, developed, advanced or improved agriculture, forestry and/or family life in West Virginia. Kerr will be honored during the WVAFHF recognition dinner to be held on July 15, 2017, according to the West Virginia Department of Agriculture Market Bulletin.
The Distinguished Service Award is given by the US Regional Association of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (US-IALE) for an exceptional contribution in terms of time, energy and dedication that advanced the mission of the association. Department of Natural Resources and the Environment Assistant Professor Anita Morzillo received this 2017 award in April at the US-IALE annual meeting in Baltimore, Maryland.

Department of Allied Health Sciences Assistant Professor Tania Huedo-Medina‘s project may assist other countries in data analysis and health strategies, as well.

Hartford Courant. 5-22-17. Announced that four UConn baseball pitchers were honored by the American Athletic Conference. William Montgomerie, a right-handed pitcher and a applied resource economics major, was named to the second team. (more…)
